The Earth as our home – cultural policy in anticipation of the “heating up”

In the context of the 10th Kulturpolitischen Bundeskongresses "Culture. Power. Homes" on June 28, 2019 in Berlin, SAVE THE WORLD was invited to curate the final panel "Heimat ERDE - Cultural Policy in Expectation of the Heating up“. The artistic director Nicola Bramkamp staged an artistic intervention in cooperation with the Fraunhofer-Innovationslabor Lemgo Digital  and the artists' collective Schule der politischen Hoffnung (Georg Blokus & Corinna Ujkasevic).

What happens if we understand our planet as home and do not remain in national territorial thinking? INA, roboter and supervisor at the Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB) in Lemgo, gave a lecture on the connections between climate change, digitalization and attachment to home. For this purpose, an extra-planetary perspective was tailored to the robot's digital body, which caused a lot of laughs in the audience and was explosive in terms of content. INA's performance was followed by controversial and passionate discussions about the possibilities of artificial intelligence in climate protection, about geo-engineering, de-growth, Fridays for Future and cultural policy, a sector that should also be climate policy these days.
