Over the past few years, mobile phones have revolutionized our lives, becoming an essential accessory and an everyday companion. A life without smartphone is unimaginable for many today. Rarely, in the course of this development, the question is asked, under which conditions the equipment is produced and which raw materials are consumed during their production.
Nicole Bosquet (Germanwatch e.V.) demonstrates with the example of the mobile phone, how the increasing demands of industrial societies are driving forward the worldwide mining of raw materials. With the help of the Germanwatch raw material expedition and live satellite imagery she shows the finiteness of our planet and the consequences of the exploitation of nature. In this way, the participants get an insight into the global mobile industry and learn why it is worthwhile to use devices as long as possible and thus make a contribution to the careful handling of resources.
