BURNING ISSUES will take place for the second time at the Theatertreffen from 7-8 May 2022. The conference has been advocating for more (gender)justice in the performing arts for years. Under the title "Performing Arts & Equality", the last conference in 2020 at Kampnagel focused more on the question of how theatres and training institutions can dismantle barriers and act in solidarity. In 2022, we will open up the thematic focus with “Performing Arts & Equity” from equality to a more globally conceived justice and ask which sustainable changes enable a just theatre on and off stage. In this regard, structural debates and transnational artistic practice must be thought together. In lectures, discussions, artistic interventions and international good practice examples, we will explore hierarchies in municipal and state theatres and in independent production houses, in ensembles and collectives and inspect them for their patriarchal, racist and colonial imprint.
